A Kaukázus Rali augusztus 30-án szombaton reggel pontban kilenckor elrajtolt a budapesti Memento Parkból. A hajdani közterületi szobrok árnyékából 15 csapat és 30 elszánt versenyző vágott neki az első szakasznak. A 638 kilométeres Budapest-Mostar szakaszt a szervezők bemelegítésnek szánták, sok csapat küzdött is a számukra még többé-kevésbé ismeretlen autókkal illetve GPS készülékekkel. A napi etapot egyik versenyző csapat sem tudta a megadott szintidőn belül teljesíteni, de a nap nem múlt el tanulságok nélkül.
A 30-as rajtszámú DB Team Suzuki SX4-e Boszniában rendőrautós üldozésbe keveredett de információink szerint sikerült ép bőrrel és pénztárcával megúszniuk. A 21-es rajtszámú Ezüstnyil már Szekszárdon szervizelt, de a gyors es hathatós beavatkozás utan a mezőny után repesztettek. A mostari szállásra éjfél körül ért be az utolsó csapat, az olasz-portugál-amerikai összetételű virtulatourist.com team. “Egészen jól összeszoktunk a nap folyamán, mi ugyanis Budapesten találkoztunk előszor élőben, addig csak virtuális kapcsolatunk volt. Az autónk, az 1986-os Moszkvics eddig kiválóan megy, már nevet is kapott tőlünk: Szimfonia. Ugyanis félóránként újabb és újabb hangok jönnek elő valahonnan, majd az egesz összeáll egy nagy nyöszörgő szimfóniává.”- mesélte Frank Noe, a csapat egyik amerikai tagja.
Az este folyamán a versenyzők egy mostari étteremben több üveg helyi sör társásagában megünnepelték a magyar geotracer.hu-Malibus, valamint a norvég Polar Bears csapat egy-egy tagjanak születésnapját.
A csapatok kora reggel indulnak el a koszovói Pec városa felé, hiszen a Montenegrón keresztül vezető 398 kilométeres szakasz nem lesz sétagalopp.

The brief summary of the first day
Day one of the Caucasian Challenge began bright and early on a fine Saturday morning, as the teams gathered at the starting line in Memento Park in the outskirts of Budapest. The park holds statues gathered from the Soviet regime in the country – they have been placed together here as a reminder of times that were. It was beneath the shadows of these statues that the rally organizers said a few last words to the participants. Then at promptly 9:00, the fifteen teams started their epic journey.
This first stage was a long warm-up – 638 kilometers of road meant to help the teams get used to their vehicles, navigation systems, and generally being on the road. Not one of the teams reached the day’s goal within the allotted time, due to various incidents, some verging on the bizarre. Team number 21 ‘Silver Arrow’ had problems with their vehicle after they burned 100 liters of gas in the first 100 kilometers. DB Team somehow got involved in a police chase in Bosnia, but managed to escape unscathed. The virtualtourist.com team was the last to arrive at the hotel. The members of this Italian-Portuguese-American team only met one another on race day, so the first stretch of this journey was spent getting to know one another, along with their unusually noisy car, which they dubbed Symphony.
The first night was spent in exhausted celebration. The festivities included the celebration two birth dates: Laszlo, from team Geortacer.hu-Malibus, and Atle from the Norwegian team Polar Bears. At dinner the teams enjoyed ćevapčići (a wonderful grilled meat dish), and numerous beers were enjoyed by all. Sleep was short but wonderful, as the teams rested for the next leg of the challenge.
