When we started to look for the venue for the start ceremony of the Caucasian Challenge we were thinking: what is similar in all these countries? What should be the umbrella concept? What are the common points in the history of the Balkan, Eastern-European and the Caucasian countries?
Well, one thing for sure – the communist dictatorship and personality cults after WW2.
There is a place in the outskirts of Budapest, a truly unique initiative, a state owned “reserve”… a place where all the statues were rescued from the public places of Budapest after the socialist era was over and these pieces of art were uncomfortable for the city. They decided to establish a special museum, and displayed all these in the Memento Park.
After contacting the management of the Park we got a very positive response and enthusiasm and they promised full support for organizing the start from their premises.
Lucky enough the place is close to the road leaving Budapest on our route so we don’t need to cross the city after the start. That would have been an extra challenge for the foreign teams 🙂
Good news for our teams: all the participants can enter and visit the Statue Park free of charge. Furthermore, you can even drive in there and make photos/videos in front of the statues if you wish!

Néhány hónapja, amikor elkeztünk a Kaukázus Ralinak start helyszint keresni, elgondolkodtunk azon, mi legyen a kapocs a start helyszine és a futam szellemisége között? Mi az, ami összekapcsolja szinte az összes országot, amelyeken keresztül haladunk, milyen helyszin lenne az, amely koncepciójában passzol a futamhoz?
Ha egy dolgot kellene emliteni, ami mindenképpen jelen volt szinte az összes országban a II. világháború után: az a kommunista diktatúra, az önkényuralmi rendszerek és a személyi kultusz.
Mi lenne hát jobb helyszin, mint az EurĂłpában egyedĂĽlállĂł Memento Park, ahol összegyűjtöttĂ©k a rendszerváltás után a budapesti közterekrĹ‘l eltávolitott, akkor már “kĂ©nyelmetlen” státuszĂş szobrokat.
A megkeresésünk igen pozitiv visszhangra talált, a Park menedzsmentje lelkesen és teljes vállszélességgel állt a projekt mögé.
Megszületett tehát a megállapodás és biztossá vált, hogy a 2008-as Kaukázus Rali a Memento Parkból indul.
A Park vezetői felajánlották azt is, hogy a résztvevők téritésmentesen megtekinthetik a létesitményt, sőt, a rajt előtt adott időpontban be lehet állni a járművekkel az egyébként lezárt területre és fotókat is lehet késziteni a szobrok előtt!
