Ismét korai rajt várt a versenyzőkre, hiszen a mai szakasz is több, mint 600 kilométeres volt. A Nemrut-hegyről a kietlen és rettenetesen forró Kurdisztánon keresztül vezetett az út a majd’ 2000 méter magasan fekvő Van-tóhoz.
Elsőként kompra kellett szállnunk, hiszen a közelben folyó Eufráteszen cask így tudtunk átkelni. Szerencsére a csapatnak a később induló része éppen, hogy de fel tudott férni a nem túl nagy méretű kompra, így senkinek nem kellett órákat várnia a következő kompra.
A versenyzőket nem csak a pokolian forró időjárás állította komoly kihívás elé: a szervezők által megjelölt egyik pontot, nevezetesen egy másfél méter átmérőjű beton átfolyó csövet időközben beépítettek a négysávos autóút alá, viszont a legelszántabbak átmásztak a 40 méter hosszú csatornán iszapon, szalmán, patkány- és rókaürüléken keresztül csúsztak-másztak, hogy megtalálják a felfestett betűt. Ez a DB Team csapatának sikerült is, a többiek nem találták meg, bár többször végigmászták a fullasztóan meleg csatornát.
Több csapat csak késő este ért be, a 21-es rajtszámú Ezüstnyíl szétesőben lévő differenciálművel és az őket segítő Thomas Danuch Mitsubishi Pajeroja csak éjjel egy körül gurult be a parkolóba. A kék Moszkvics fedélzetén három virtualtourist.com csapattaggal a másnapi rajtig nem jelentkezett.

This day saw the teams facing extreme heat and a very long 600 km drive to Lake Van. The lake rests at over 2000 meters above sea level, but the route passed through the hot and deserted flatlands of Kurdistan. The heat and long roads, however, were not the biggest challenge to be faced.
The first obstacle was the Euphrates River, which had to be crossed by ferry. As the teams slowly arrived, it wasn’t clear if all the vehicles would fit at once, meaning some would have to wait for the next trip across the water. Fortunately, everyone managed to squeeze on the small craft, and the participants were able to continue their journey together.
One of the day’s geocaching locations provided another bump in the road. The spots had been chosen and marked months before the challenge. While this normally wasn’t an issue, in the case of this particular spot, things had changed. The challenge was to find out what letter had been spray-painted inside a large pipe. Unfortunately, the pipe had since been buried beneath a new 4-lane highway! Some teams found nothing at the coordinates given, but a few crafty teams sorted things out, and went crawling through 40 meters of dead rats, fox excrement, and filth in their quest for extra points. The industrious Team DB, after several passes, managed to find the letter.
After another rough day, the evening was spent at a fine restaurant by Lake Van. Some teams made it there pretty late in the night due to mechanical problems and Team 06, virtualtourist.com haven’t arrived at all.. After a great meal and a few Efes beers, everyone was allowed to roll out their sleeping bags and spend the night on the restaurant’s roof terrace. The fresh air and extreme exhaustion from the day’s challenges meant everyone slept well.
