Sokkal jobb, mint gondoltuk… / Much better than expected…

A festoi PEC varosabol jelentkezem, ami Koszovoban talalhato, szerencsere belefutottam egy internet kavezoba (internet kebabozoba?), igy meg tudom veletek osztani a hirt, miszerint elunk, virulunk es haladunk.

A versenyutvonal irasa nem csak erdekes de osszetett es nehez feladat is, a tervek szerint kb. fele sebesseggel haladunk, tehat ami 1 nap lesz a versenyen, azt mi 2 nap alatt teljesitjuk. Ez igy jo.

Az utvonalrol nem is tudok hirtelen mit irni, gyonyoru, erdekes, valtozatos, faraszto, de minden perce elmeny. Kulonosen a magyar lapalyokhoz szokott szemeknek bamulatosak a bosnyak, majd a meg zordabb montenegroi es koszovoi hegyek. A kaja mindenutt fenseges es olcso, sikerult jopofa szallasokat es szorakozasi lehetosegeket (mar akinek erre lesz energiaja) felderitenunk, egy mostari kiskocsmaban a heliek altal egekig magasztalt hazipalinkat tartjuk eddig az egyik legnagyobb veszelyforrasnak. Ahogy elmondtak nekunk, fejfajast nem okoz nagyobb mennyisegben sem (ezt az allitast teszteltuk eleg behatoan), mert nincs benne hozzaadott cukor, es valoban isteni, de a masnapi indulast kisse megneheziti.

Kosovobol meg ma tovabb megyunk Albaniaba, ott kicsit kimegyunk a civilizaciobol, de erdeklodve varjuk.

Ahogy tudok ujra jelentkezem talan kicsit bovebb hirekkel es nehany fotoal. Ha valaki tudja, Albaniaban hol tudunk wifit lopni, az kuldjon errol egy SMS-t :)

Greetings from the magnificent town of Pec in Kosovo! Walking around luckily we bumped into an internet cafe (or internet kebab place) so we can share with you the fact that we are alive and enjoy (almost) every second of the scouting trip so far.

Don`t even know what I should write…
The mapping mission is quite tiring and complicated as a task but we can keep the planned timing, we move half the speed as the rally will move, i.e. we do 1 stage in2 days. That`s good enough.
The route is really amaing, the mountains are getting higher and tougher as we move on from Bosnia to Montenegro and Kosovo. Food is just excellent and cheap, we managed to find decent accomodation at the daily destinations including socializing venues like small local taverns where local booze is great and sold for penauts and no headache or other side effects (tested). Makes the earlz morning start a bit difficult though…

Now we leave Kosovo in an hour to enter Albania so we leave civilization for a while… btw, if zou know a place in Albania where we can steal wifi, just message us, will you? :)

The Start

When we started to look for the venue for the start ceremony of the Caucasian Challenge we were thinking: what is similar in all these countries? What should be the umbrella concept? What are the common points in the history of the Balkan, Eastern-European and the Caucasian countries?
Well, one thing for sure – the communist dictatorship and personality cults after WW2.

There is a place in the outskirts of Budapest, a truly unique initiative, a state owned “reserve”… a place where all the statues were rescued from the public places of Budapest after the socialist era was over and these pieces of art were uncomfortable for the city. They decided to establish a special museum, and displayed all these in the Memento Park.

After contacting the management of the Park we got a very positive response and enthusiasm and they promised full support for organizing the start from their premises.

Lucky enough the place is close to the road leaving Budapest on our route so we don’t need to cross the city after the start. That would have been an extra challenge for the foreign teams :)

Good news for our teams: all the participants can enter and visit the Statue Park free of charge. Furthermore, you can even drive in there and make photos/videos in front of the statues if you wish!

Néhány hónapja, amikor elkeztünk a Kaukázus Ralinak start helyszint keresni, elgondolkodtunk azon, mi legyen a kapocs a start helyszine és a futam szellemisége között? Mi az, ami összekapcsolja szinte az összes országot, amelyeken keresztül haladunk, milyen helyszin lenne az, amely koncepciójában passzol a futamhoz?

Ha egy dolgot kellene emliteni, ami mindenképpen jelen volt szinte az összes országban a II. világháború után: az a kommunista diktatúra, az önkényuralmi rendszerek és a személyi kultusz.

Mi lenne hát jobb helyszin, mint az Európában egyedülálló Memento Park, ahol összegyűjtötték a rendszerváltás után a budapesti közterekről eltávolitott, akkor már “kényelmetlen” státuszú szobrokat.

A megkeresésünk igen pozitiv visszhangra talált, a Park menedzsmentje lelkesen és teljes vállszélességgel állt a projekt mögé.

Megszületett tehát a megállapodás és biztossá vált, hogy a 2008-as Kaukázus Rali a Memento Parkból indul.

A Park vezetői felajánlották azt is, hogy a résztvevők téritésmentesen megtekinthetik a létesitményt, sőt, a rajt előtt adott időpontban be lehet állni a járművekkel az egyébként lezárt területre és fotókat is lehet késziteni a szobrok előtt!

Driving back from Yerevan / Autóval haza Jerevánból

It’s nice to drive 8,000 kilometers from Hungary to Armenia as a participant of a rally, sell your car over there and fly back home. But what if you have more time to look around and anyhow you don’t want to sell your precious car which took you all the way to Yerevan?
Believe or not, you can drive back in a couple of days (depending on your style) since the shortest and fastest way back is only 3,200 kms.

The route

I put here a list of major cities you need to cross and also a draft map. If you’re more interested in the details, check a regular map or Google maps for details.
Yes, obviously you have alternatives, but this is the fastest option. You can do it in 4 days if you want pretty easily.

Az rendben van, hogy 8,000 kilométert vezetünk Magyarországtól az örmény fővárosig egy rali résztvevőjeként, majd az örömködés után, hogy épségben megértkeztünk (és megcsináltuk!) eladjuk az autónkat és hazarepülünk.
De mi van akkor, ha valaki időmilliomos, szeretne még a környéken szétnézni és különben sem akarja a drága, szeretett és hűséges autóját örmény kezekbe adni?

Ha hiszitek, ha nem, hiába tart 17 napig a Kaukázus Rali, néhány nap alatt haza lehet vezetni Jerevánból, hiszen a legrövidebb utat választva az mindössze 3,200 km.

Az útvonal

Alant látható azoknak a nagyobb településeknek a listája, amelyeket érintve érdemes hazajönni (amennyiben valaki siet és nem akar még túrázni). Ezen felül csatolok egy vázlatos térképet is – akit tüzetesebben érdekel, nézze meg egy papír térképen vagy a Google maps-en.
Igen, természetesen vannak egyéb alternatívák, ez a leggyorsabb opció.Yes, obviously you have alternatives, but this is the fastest option. 4 nap alatt viszonylag kényelmesen meg lehet tenni.

Fuel costs / Üzemanyag költségek

Since fuel prices are higher nowadays than the highest peak of the Caucasus I think it’s worth to have a look at the actual prices in all those countries we travel through.
There are significant differences, so you can actually save the money for your night party if you fill up your tank at the right place.

You might know that you’ll find the highest fuel prices in Turkey where you need to pay a brutal 1,78 Euros for a liter, on the other hand you may want to arrive to the Georgian border with an almost dry tank since petrol is as little as 0,76 Euro a liter.

There are no significant differences in the Balkans, however Bulgaria is definitely the place where you will want to fill up all your jerry cans and even the last Coke bottle before you enter Turkey. If you’re able to take enough petrol with you you can cut your fuel prices with as much as 200-300 Euros! This is not exactly legal, but we’ll tell you how to do it. Also Bosnia seems to be the right place to top up.

Although it’s really hard to say it’s “current” since the prices change almost every day, we attach a table with the most up-to-date fuel prices of the region.

Miután az üzemanyag árak manapság magasabbak, mint a Kaukázus legmagasabb csúcsai, mindenképpen érdekes lehet átnézni, mivel is állunk szemben az út során. Végülis 12 ország benzinkújait fogjuk látogatni és bizony nem mindegy, hogy hol tankolunk. Igen jelentős különbségek vannak, úgyhogy egy okos tankolással már sikerült is kigazdálkodni az esti buli költségeit némi bosnyák márka, albán lek vagy örmény dram formájában.

Azt talán sokan tudjátok, hogy a legmagasabb üzemanyagárakkal Törökországban fogunk találkozni, ahol 1,78 Euros (mintegy 450 forintos) benzinárral lehet számolni. Sokan nyilván száraz tankkal igyekeznek a grúz határhoz érni, ahol viszont 0,76 Euro (190 Ft) a benya literje.

A Balkánon nincsenek ilyen kirívó különbségek, bár ha kicsit odafigyel az ember, itt is tud spórolni sörrevalót. Bulgáriában pl. még mindig viszonylag jó áron lehet tankolni és az alacsony büdzsével utazóknak érdemes az utolsó kólásüveget is megtölteni, mielőtt átlépnének Törökországba. Ilyetén akár 200-300 Eurót is spórolhat aki több kannával készül. Nem kifejezetten legális a benzin áthurcolása, de majd leírjuk a technikákat. Ezen kívül Boszniában lehet még kifejezetten olcsón tankolni.

Bár nehéz naprakész infóval szolgálni, hiszen az üzemanyagárak szinte naponta változnak, csatolok egy friss árlistát.

Republic of Kosova is 100 days old / 100 napos a Koszovói Köztársaság

Nehogy azt higgye valaki, hogy adatokkal fekszem és kelek: véletlenül találtam rá erre a hirre (na jó, azért, mert adatokat gyűjtöttem).

Ma 100 napos a Koszovói Köztársaság.

Azt hiszem a világ legfiatalabb államával állunk szembe, én legalább is nem tudok olyan országról, amely azóta jött volna létre. Már önmagában érdekes átutazni egy olyan államon, amely pár hónapja még nem is létezett!
Ami biztos, a Kaukázus Rali lesz az első nemzetközi autós futam az ország életében!

Azt, hogy Koszovó önálló állam, nem mindenki gondolja pontosan igy. Itt található egy szivhez szóló üdvözlő alatt azon országok listája, akik elfogadták Koszovót önálló államként. Ha valakit érdekel a konkrét szövegezés, a magyar nyilatkozat itt olvasható.

Nekem régóta fúrja az oldalam valami ezzel kapcsolatban. Mi tette olyan bátorrá ezt a régiót, hogy ezt a lépést meglépje? Tudván, hogy az egyébként is agresszivitásáról hirhedt Szerbia része és annak bajszát húzogatja.
Ki szponzorálta ezta kis államot és vajon mi mozoghat a háttérben? Valamelyik nagyhatalomnak valamiért valami nagyon fontos ebben az országban ami miatt az egér ennyire cincoghat. Hallottam már egy-két összeesküvés elméletet, de érdekelne az igazság – ami viszont valószinűleg odaát van, tehát sosem fogjuk megtudni.

Nektek földi halandóknak maradt néhány érdekes és informativ oldal, ahol tudtok mazsolázni az újdonsült országban található látnivalókról, érdekességekről. Legalább nagyjából ismerjük meg azokat a helyeket, amiken keresztül autózunk, nemde?

Don’t think that I spend all my days and nights gathering data, I accidantly found this on the net (yes, while I was searching for some info).

Republic of Kosovo is 100 days old.

I’m pretty sure I make no mistake if I say this is the youngest country in the world. At least I don’t know any other states younger than this one. How interesting it’s going to be traveling through a country which didn’t exist some months ago.
One thing is sure – The Caucasian Challenge is going to be the first motorsport event ever in the history of Kosovo!

Not everyone shares the enthusiasm of the Kosovo people having their own sovereign country. You can find the list of the countries who have recognized or announced the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo. All this after a very touchy welcome message. There’s one thing I don’t understand regarding the declaration of independence of Kosovo. What made this small region so brave to finally make this step? Knowing that they bug Serbia with this and Serbia is famous for its agressive attitude anyway.
Who sponsored this little country what is the deal in the background? Something is extremely important for one of the powerful countries in Kosovo for some reason. I’ve heard some conspiration theories already but I’d like to know the simple truth. But as we all know, the truth is out there… and we’ll never know that.

You, earthlings, need to content yourselves with some useful links introducing Kosovo. I think we should all be aware of the highlights of the country we travel through, right?
